AARCH sponsors and presents exhibits on African American history and culture for schools, fairs, libraries, and community events. Previous exhibits have focused on African American soldiers who served in World War I and World War II; another highlighted African Americans in Frederick County who are “held in regard” because of their contributions to the wider community.

Frederick Civil Rights Leaders

The AARCH Civil Rights display was presented in the lobby of the Weinberg Center for the “The Mountaintop” play on April 13 2018. The display featured Civil Rights leaders from Frederick County. Our participants were (left to right) Seaven Gordon, Velma Lawson, Royal Lawson, Ann Oram and Sandra Makel.


Frederick County’s African American Sports & Athletes

AARCH participated at the “Museums at the Mall” on March 24, 2018 at FSK Mall. Sandra Makel and Rose Chaney presented Frederick County’s African American Sports & Athletes.

Emancipation Quilt

The State of Maryland created a quilt to celebrate the emancipation of slaves in 1864. Each county in the state contributed a panel; AARCH designed the Frederick County panel.


African American WWI display

An African American WWI display was featured in the main showcase at the C. Burr Artz Library for the month of September.
